1967年誕生於日本鹿兒島，曾入選集英社『周刊少年JUMP』的手冢賞。1988年以『紫色的楓』出道，其後發表了『變色龍』。1990年，『SLAM DUNK』開始在『周刊少年JUMP』上連載。1995年，親自為ASICS設計了一款運動鞋，且命名為「HIGH TIME」，並 於同年獲得Good Design賞。
